Q: What was your “Aha” moment that made you choose to join Blinds.com?
I was fortunate enough to attend the open house when Blinds.com moved to the current location. Founder and CEO Jay Steinfeld gave a short speech about the humble beginnings of Blinds.com and how they got here, and went over the core values (that are proudly declared through wall art around the office). I was completely sold. The icing on the cake was talking to many of the employees that night, and they all talked so highly of the company, the leaders, their work. I wanted to be a part of that kind of organization!
Q: Which of the core values influences you the most in your life and why?
Do I really have to choose just one? If it HAS to be just one I will say “Improve Continuously”. That core value is a very active part of this business in every single department. We are constantly striving to do better than we did last year, last month, yesterday… it reminds me daily to improve myself continuously, both at work and in my personal life. Seeing the different goals posted by co-workers on our Improve Continuously whiteboard inspires me to reach for the stars! (A close second is “Speak Up”. I have found my voice here – when your ideas are actually considered and valued, it is both a humbling and an exciting experience.)
Q: What’s your favorite flavor of cake that you’ve eaten at the Blinds.complex?
Well…. my favorite flavor of cake is German Chocolate, but we haven’t gotten any of that yet (guess I need to speak up about that one!) so I’ll have to fall back on my next favorite, chocolate.
Q: What experiences have shaped you the most as you enjoy the Blinds.com ride?
Our Quick Chats, “speed dating” style one-on-one meetings with our senior management team. It means a lot that senior management made it a priority to spend a day talking to people to get to know them better, be better known themselves, and to listen to what we had to say. Not only did they listen, but they acted on some of the ideas/thoughts that I expressed.
Q: What are your favorite hashtags to use at Blinds.com?
Q: How would you describe Blinds.com in three sentences or less?
Blinds.com is that rare business that actually lives out the words, “We care about our customers. We care about or employees.” I’ve heard those words in mission statements from a lot of companies, but never witnessed and experienced it until I came to work here.
