Free Your Mind
Often, when we are brainstorming or trying to think bigger than “the box”, our UX manager John likes to reference this quote by Thomas Edison:
“Hell, there are no rules here – we’re trying to accomplish something.”
It’s a good one to keep in mind, especially if you find your tests being limited by technology or other preconceived “rules”. When someone in the brainstorming session says, “But we can’t because the “fill-in-the-blank” system/program/work habit won’t allow it,” try, at least 3 times, to say “But if it could, how would it work?” Imagine what the solution would look like to the customer, and then go back to figure out how to make it happen if it is worth happening.
